As jobless claims rose more and more during 2009 and 2010, more students than ever decided to stay in school or return to school. Record numbers saw advanced degrees as a way of gaining a rung up in the employment hierarchy.
Working Class Roots. Casey Affleck’s mother, Chris Affleck was a teacher and his father Timothy held down several different jobs while Ben and Case were growing up in Massachusetts. Timothy Affleck worked as a drug counselor, auto mechanic and a bar tender. Undoubtedly both Ben and Casey Affleck saw their hardworking parents do whatever it took to support the family and gleaned a strong work ethic from their example.
The author’s daughter took a year off midway through college to earn money for her education so that when she returned to & graduated from Columbia University, she could do so with minimal debt. She earned scholarships, was part of a work-study program, and made minimal use of student loans. Her smart move meant fewer bills when she got married.

Today’s story, “Shot to the Lungs and No Breath Left”, was written my Megan Stielstra who teaches creative writing at Columbia college and the University of Chicago. She also directs story development for 2nd Story. Megan’s story was definitely not disappointing. Shannon, her father’s only daughter, after going on a third date with Wade Dallas comes home with a shiner. Shannon’s father decides to take matter into his own hands. His motto: “Shoot for the lungs”.

But first, who is Bates? Bates or Dr. William H. Bates is the pioneer who discovered the technique and method on how a person can have the perfect vision even without the use of glasses or contact lenses. He had a medical degree at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia students way back 1885. Dr. Bates has been in the ophthalmology practice for more than twenty years. He has been receiving awards for his work and research on eye health and corrective vision issues.
GM: We haven’t started yet. We just released the ‘Talking Fiction’ 7-inch, kind of ‘hinting at’ the new album, but we haven’t started working on the new album yet.

Did you know up to half of folks over 80-years old either have Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia? You are going to live into your nineties so a healthy brain and longevity matter to you, right?
So should we throw everything else out the window? Not necessarily. Reading, learning new things, crossword puzzles and yes, even those over-priced brain-er-cise programs, all help us to keep our brains active and to make us more interesting people as well. But if you want the most bang for your buck; an old pair of sweats, some good sneakers and an aerobics tape might be your best bet.
